Cool Mobile IM & SMS Products
When I first bought my MDA, I was a little pissed because I couldn't easily IM from the device. The phone came with OZ's mobile IM software, but it never quite worked for me. It would always just hung. Talking to Tmobile reps was no help either. It works for AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and ICQ, but you have to sign in separately to each service. And, if you already have a large buddy list, it's just not goint to load. I was eventually told, by a Tmobile rep, to create another username for when I'm mobile. As if.
Anyway, eventually a friend told me about Agile Messenger, and it pretty much worked like both Fire and Adium. These are clients that I use on my Mac that enable me to sign into AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Jabber (there could be more) simultaneously. The best thing about these services, though they don't have audio/video capabilities like iChat, is their ability to see all of your conversations in one window and to keep backlogs of all your chats. So, for my phone, I wanted a similar experience. Agile was cool, but sometimes I found it to be slow, and there was something else missing that I just couldn't name. So I didn't use the Beta much, and once it was time to pay, I didn't see the point.
I eventually found WebMessenger, and I must say I'm very pleased. Thought it has a an annual price tag of $29.95, I think it's worth it.
So I've written all of this just to make a recommendation. If you're on the go a lot, and like using IM while you're mobile, you should check out WebMessenger.
They have these products available for IM:
They have a host of other products, including WebMessenger for Skype. This one of course doesn't make any sense, considering you can download mobile Skype for your phone directly from Skype. I know I tried it, at least up until Skype was no longer free. But I suppose it's still worth it, since you can still talk to other skype memebers for free.
