I was about 12. Sad to admit it, but I had a thing for those light-skinned boyz with big 'fros. And there he was, with his falsetto shrill, his fried 'fro, his tight pants. "I wanna be your lover, I wanna be your mother and your sister to."

Yeah, you could be my lover.

I think where I saw him first was Soul Train. And then he was in the pages of what I think must have been Right On! It must have been. Because then I remember him all over my wall. Every pitcture I could find pasted above my head. I woke up and went to sleep to his face.

There was Michael Jackson and Foster Sylvers before him, but something was different about this dude. He had a special way of making you feel like a naughty little girl. He was so much like both a boy and a girl, you didn't know how to feel about him or his music.

Twisted. That's what it was. Twisted.

My love for he and his music has been twisted ever since, and when he finally released a movie, I wanted to be him. I practiced all his moves. I sang all his cadences. I awed both woman and man with my impersonation.
